The importance of Effective Communication in the workplace is discussed and explored through discussion and some interactive activities. Participants will explore the importance of oral and written communications skills and assertive communications skills, and listening skills. We will empower participants to become more effective communicators by using the skills identified in the Characteristics of Self-Empowerment to enhance their interpersonal communications on the job through effective listening skills. Participants will overcome blocks to listening, build rapport, acknowledge the speaker and clarify the speaker's message and meaning.

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

Understand the role and process of interpersonal communications and effective listening in the workplace.
Recognize the impact of verbal and nonverbal techniques.
Review assertive communication styles.
Review listening skills as they relate to interpersonal communication skills.
Develop individual action plans designed to apply course learnings on the job.

This live class is going to be held online via the Webex or Zoom platform. Participants will receive an email with details on how to access the live course 24 to 48 hours before the start of class.

Mary Anne is an author, motivational speaker, coach, trainer, and organization/management development professional who is skilled in executive coaching, group dynamics, consultation, and facilitation. She specializes in the areas of leadership, communications, executive coaching, change management, and career transition and has experience in the Financial Services, Telecommunications, public utilities, insurance, retail, and healthcare industries, numerous government agencies, non-profit organizations, and academia.
Mary Anne holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Organization Development from the American University/National Training Laboratories program in Washington, DC. Additionally, she holds the National Training Laboratories Certificate for Organization Development and is certified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
